Intersex Surgery: Urogenital Closure

This is closure of any midline opening at the base of the penis. In severe under virilization an infant boy may have a “pseudovaginal pouch” or a single urogenital opening in the midline of the perineum.

Potential Problems
Surgeons finds that the most complicated aspect of closure involves the moving the urethra to the phallus if it is not already present. Another risk associated is fistulas and scarring.
